The Food
In the Dominican Republic life is revolves, around family, food and sports. Unlike western cultures where families eat three meals a day. Families on the island usually eat a big lunch and then a nice dinner. Rice (arroz) and beans (abichuelas), salads (ensaladas) and a some kind of meat (such as cerrdo, pig) are the traditional staples you will find in the homes of Dominicans. Pictured below is a plate of sweet fried platanoes. Made from plantains, this food is fried and sweetened and tastes delicious. This dish is usually served as a side, along with rice and some meat (like salami).
